In 2008, two youths from humble backgrounds, with the hopes of inspiring other teenagers, planned to share their experiences on youth motivation and overseas social proejcts through a book. The duo approached and knocked on more than hundreds of doors, from foundations, schools, private individuals to fund their publication, but to no avail. For months they waited, only to receive negative replies one after another. Finally, after almost 1 year, there was a breakthrough; they found a local youth NGO who had agreed to fund the book publication and it's book launch fully.
Eventually, the book went on to become a best-seller, got featured on numerous media and had the rare opportunity of receiving a foreword by Singapore's former President S.R. Nathan for it's 2nd print.
After this exciting journey, the duo understood the pains in fundraising. Many good ideas and endeavours failed to materialize because of thie tedious process of fundraising. Thus, with this in mind, they decided to create a platform in bridging funders and good project creators together - a platform where good ideas become reality.
The duo conceptualized the idea in May 2011 and ToGather.Asia was incorporated in December 2011. With the support of SPRING Singapore's Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (YES!), the platform was launched in March 2012.
Since then, ToGather.Asia has been impacting and helping start-ups, creative projects and emerging musicians in materializing their dreams: The Sam Willows, who is now signed with Warner Music & voted Rising Star of the Month in January, and the Cashew Chemists, who had launched their EP album in January 2013.
